Houston

Thirty-thousand mainly young people looking forward to a night of entertainment by famous entertainers suddenly found themselves fighting for their lives.

Many died a horrible death, squeezed to death, being trampled on, gasping for air.

It’s what nightmares are made of. It was a scene out of hades.

People in charge anticipate problems.

They make plans to handle problems.

What went wrong?

Investigations are ongoing seeking answers (if there are any).

Lives, unfilled dreams and futures remain only dreams.

What happened was a tragedy.

For Clarity

Neville Chamberlain, prior to Winston Churchill, was prime minister of England.

He was duped by Hitler who in a conference stated he would cease his warlike actions.

He lied.

Chamberlain was replaced by the “tiger” Churchill.

Posterity will never forget, with the stump of a cigar in his mouth, in a broad British accent, his stirring voice, “We shall never surrender.”

“We shall go on to the end, we shall fight in France, we shall fight on the seas and oceans, we shall fight with growing confidence and growing strength in the air, we shall defend our Island, whatever the cost may be, we shall fight on the beaches, we shall fight on the landing grounds, we shall fight in the fields and in the streets, we shall fight in the hills; we shall never surrender…”

For four years the English were being bombed both day and night.

They endured many hardships with no complaints.

As soon as the indomitable English airforce came fighting the German bombers, the battle of Britain was won.

Churchill said, “Never in the field of human conflict was so much been owed by so many to so few.”

My hats off to them.

Perilous Days

Danny and I watch TV. What we see saddens and puzzles us.

We watch the World Series baseball game.

The stadium is packed with baseball fans.

We all, in our best interests, must heed our health officials’ recommendations.

Don’t be a “smart ass.”

Be around when this pandemic ends.

A nightmare that will pass into history.

We defeated it once, we can do it again.

Each of us must do our part.

I will do mine.

Please do yours.

Footprints

Every life is different and unique.

Your children and grandchildren want to know all about you.

You have left footprints behind you they can follow.

I feel I owe it to posterity. A good reason to tell my story.

I don’t kid myself. Though I feel good I know I won’t be around long.

At this point in my life my simple needs are taken care of by loving people around me.

Good luck,

Morrie
